THINGS TO DO NEAR RAWLINS, WY

There are a remarkable number of entertainment and recreational opportunities in, and around, Rawlins. Whether you like to fish, golf, swim, hike, river raft, visit cultural and historical sites, or just take a scenic drive, your choices are nearly endless in Carbon County. SEMINOE STATE PARK

There's a lot to do when you go visit Seminoe State Park. The park sits along the Seminoe Reservoir and is a short distance from Seminoe Sand Dune and the Seminoe Mountains. Some of the many activities you can do in the park include biking, boating, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and geocaching, among many others. The state park is about 40 miles northeast of Rawlins and is a great place to take a day trip and experience the beauty of southern Wyoming.

WYOMING FRONTIER PRISON MUSEUM

Explore a piece of Wyoming history by stopping off at the Wyoming Frontier Prison Museum.  The museum's address is 500 W. Walnut St. and offers tours throughout the week, depending on the season. This museum was Wyoming's first state penitentiary, housing inmates from 1901-81. It was used in movies after that before becoming a museum in 1988. The Wyoming Frontier Prison Museum is on the National Registry of Historic Places and welcomes 15,000 visitors annually.

NORTH PLATTE RIVER

The North Platte River branches off of the Platte River and runs just east of Rawlins. It is a popular place to go fishing, especially for trout. From the Colorado state line to Interstate 80, there are 14 public access areas that allow for wade fishing, picnic areas, boat launches and restrooms. Along with being a popular place for year-round fishing, it is also one of the most scenic rivers in the state. Scenic float trips are also an option for those visiting the North Platte River.
